Planetary hours, online tarot decks, books to read

Did you know that the hours of each day follow a planetary cycle?  That some hours are ruled by Venus, others by Mars, etc and that therefore some times are more auspicious for certain activities?  These hours are not the same each day, but you can find a planetary hours calculator, along with a more complete explanation of this concept here.  You can also check out the recent article on our sister site about the planetary rulerships of the days of the week.

Divination

Interested in tarot and divination?  You can see pictures from different decks, and experiment with them through automated online readings at this site.  Available decks include traditional tarot options such as the Rider-Waite deck, more modern variations such as the Goddess and Whimsical tarots, as well as non-tarot divination cards like the Anubis Oracle. The site also offers a free biorhythms calculator and a psychic ability test.  You will also want to read what Selena, our psychic blogger, has to say about using different forms of divination at this site. Although they no longer offer automated online readings, a wonderful beginner-friendly divination deck (outside of the tarot tradition) is the Faery Oracle.  You can learn more about this magical-feeling deck here.

Jyotish astrology

We’ve offered explanations of the differences between Vedic (also known as Jyotish) astrology and western astrology, as well as interesting facets of this tradition, on one of our other sites.  If you want to read more, I highly recommend Linda Johnsen’s A Thousand Suns: Designing Your Future with Vedic Astrology as well as Astrology of the Seers by David Frawley.  Frawley’s book is fascinating because he also has a strong understanding of the connections between Vedic astrology, ayurvedic medicine and yoga, all of which he has written about as well as taught.
